Health Benefits of Macadamia Nuts
Macadamia Nuts Nutritional Information:
Contains Antioxidants
Macadamia nuts naturally contain flavonoids, which protect the plant from damage and environmental toxins. Vitamin E is an example of a flavonoid present in macadamia nuts. When flavonoids are ingested the body converts these flavonoids to antioxidants which protect the body from various diseases by destroying harmful cells. Antioxidants play a role in fighting inflammation and reducing the risk for cancer.
Protects against Heart Disease
Macadamia nuts are commercially known for having a high-fat content leading to the assumption that the nut is bad for your heart. However, the nut’s high-fat content is the reason why the nut is good for your heart. Macadamia nuts contain high amounts of monounsaturated fats which decreases your LDL* (bad cholesterol) and increases your HDL* (good cholesterol). As a result, you will have healthy blood lipid levels and, in return, a healthy heart.
High in Fibre
Macadamia nuts are high in fiber. Fiber is an essential component of a balanced diet and because of the modernization of our eating habits we do not consume enough fiber in our daily diets. Fiber is also involved with cholesterol, by binding to LDL* (bad cholesterol), fiber helps with the discarding of cholesterol from the body. Fiber is important for normal bowel movements and can even protect the body from colon cancer.
May Facilitate Weight Loss
Macadamia nuts high fat and fibre content leads to longer lasting satiety which may reduce food cravings and therefore aid in weight loss.
Contains Vitamins and Minerals
Macadamia nuts contain vitamin A, niacin, thiamine, riboflavin, folate, zinc, copper, magnesium, potassium, calcium and phosphorus. These vitamins and minerals each play a unique role in the body to contribute to a healthy body metabolism.
Gluten Free
Macadamia nuts are gluten free which means people with a gluten allergy or celiac disease can enjoy these delicious nuts.
No Cholesterol
Macadamia nuts does not contain any cholesterol in addition to the fact that the nut contains other components which reduce LDL* (bad cholesterol) therefore protecting your heart. Macadamia nuts are not only delicious but can form part of a healthy balanced diet with plenty of health benefits for your body.
